Welcome To

Brengman Family Wines

With sublime terroir located in Leelanau Peninsula with plenty of fresh water, clean air
and the magical quality of the sunlight that ripens our cool climate vinifera grapes.

Entering our twenty second season we find ourselves looking at our past and, more importantly, future. It wouldn’t exist if the wonderful flavors of the vineyards were not here. Those flavors are here, and their existence is crucial to our own. We have found this wonderful gift from the unique dirt that we tend and special climate that nurtures it. We love it, tend it carefully and competently, and see that it continues to sing.

Trendsetters at Brengman Family Wines

Viva Magenta!

As spring evolves into summer, an air of excitement exists that brings us back to childhood.  Days off school, frolicking outdoors, new adventures, the beach, friends, campfires, bike rides, family and just plain fun.   And of course, no kid’s youth was complete without the American family staple, Kool-aid!  One thing has changed of course – as an adult there are no longer dreams of the Kool-Aid! Man crashing through walls and yelling “oh yeah!”.  Those thoughts are replaced with the adult summertime favorite, Rosé.  While we might not be crashing through walls, here at Brengman Family Wines we are breaking the glass ceiling when it comes to Rosé.

Brengman Family Wines stepped away from the Rosé norm in 2022 and went bold with Viva Magenta, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Viognier.  This vibrant new wine captivated us all, from the beautifully clear and reflective ruby color to the deep cranberry and strawberry flavors with a hint of lavender and purple flowers and finished with a hint of lime.  This departure from the traditional lighter roses just felt right and reflected our motto – Truth in Dirt.

The transformation from the summertime classic wine into an emboldened, complex – and let’s face it – better Rosé, leads to dreams of long evening conversations with friends, days on the boat, lying by the pool, and BBQing with family.  Many who comment in the tasting room are surprised at first at the color.  Imagine Dorothy’s red slippers, or the intensity of a poppy in bloom, or even the rich color of a hot summer sunset, and you can imagine Viva Magenta.  If you listen closely, you can still hear customers exclaiming, “oh yeah!” after their first sip.  I guess some things never change.

But it’s not just Brengman Family Wines that is embracing this new look and feel of Rosé.  Recently highlighted on Antonio Galloni’s Vinous website, the number of world-wide producers who are shifting from pink to light red (magenta) continues to grow.  Vinous tasted wine from 2024 vintages that reflect this deeper color, but we must wonder, did we start the trend back in 2022?  Only time will tell, but boy it is an exciting time to be a Rosé!
